CHINA - Incoming Mail from Great Britain. 1879 cover sent from Plymouth, franked with QV 6d (plate#16, SG 147) to China Inland Mission Shanghai. Hong Kong transit on reverse. Front shows manuscript notation "Rece. July 4th / Silver Island / May 7th / 1879" - SILVER ISLAND on the Yangtse river near Chin Kiang, remarkable destination at this (or any other) time. (Photo). CHINA - Incoming Mail from Brazil. 1895 illustrated 40R stationery card, written at Limeira-Sao Paulo sent to "Chine Province de Foukian at Formose, Fou-Tcheon" showing French Paquet octagonal "LIGNE J*PAQ.FR.No 3" datestamp. "SINGAPORE *TO HONG KONG" transit and arrival FOOCHOWFOO c.d.s. alongside. Reverse shows Brasilian railway mark "1 TREM *D.A.-S.Paulo 24 T". Very attractive exhibition card. (Photo). CHINA - Incoming Mail from Nicaragua. 1901, M.Momotombo 2c stationery card, uprated with 1c+2c same issue all cancelled by oval MASAYA datestamp, sent to Shanghai where was SHANGHAI*LOCAL POST c.d.s. arrival applied. Card was redirected to Hankow showing Chinese SHANGHAI bilingual departure c.d.s. and HANKOW arrival c.d.s. alongside. Rare and attractive. (Photo). Est. 200 - 300 CHF.

French P.O. in Shanghai c.d.s. (Oct 6) and card re-addressed back to Berlin, travelling by French Paquebot with octagonal ‘Ligne N / Paq. Fr. No. 6’ datestamp (Oct 23). Front shows Russian Postage Due "DOPLATIT" mark with manuscript 23k charge mark. Alongside Chinese MANCHOULI transit c.d.s. Reverse shows Shanghai machine arrival cancellation. CHINA - Incoming Mail from Australia. 1937 (Nov 15), cover to Nanking, ' Return to Sender'-'Communication with Nanking temporarily suspended ' 2 violet handstamp. probably applied in Hong Kong and returned to Adelaide Ap. 22 1938 c.d.s. 'Dead Letter Office'. Nanking fell to the Japanese on Dec 13 / '37 & RAPE of NANKING lasted 6 weeks.
