CHINA - Turkey. 1914 registered cover to Smyrna, bearing 20c tied by Hankow 18 Sept '14 bilingual c.d.s.with red boxed R-HANKOW, sent via Siberia & Censored by provisional paper label tied by Russian straightline Censor handstamp. of Irkutsk (recorded Aug - Dec 1914), on to France where 3 boxed handstamp. (Retained by Censor, return to origin) applied. Cover held for 6 years & forwarded to destination, where it was 'Undeliverable', then returned bearing the following transits: Stamboul depart, Br. PO Constatinople, Port Said, GPO Hong Kong & Br. PO Hankow. Remarkably well travelled item with RARE Russian censor. (Photo). Est. 500 - 600 CHF.

CHINA. 1918 registered "On Service" cover from Peking (2 May 1918 cds) to Wenchow (9 May arrival c.d.s.) via Shanghai with May 5 c.d.s. "POSTAGE PAID" and registration chops also on front. "On Service" mail should be always free of postage, thus exceptionally unusual with postage paid chop. Should not be of private usage requiring postage as there is numbering written in the lower left corner. RARE. (Photo). Est. 400 - 500 CHF.

On the reverse a Tientsin PO printed label stating that the mail was torn due to military occupation of Tientsin Head PO. (The Sino-Japanese War broke out on July 7 1937 in Peking and Tientsin was occupied by Japanese in early August) An unrecorded usage and a historical piece of great importance !! (Photo). Large red Shanghai Post Release,sent via UK with British examiner censored slip and released chop. Cover marked "Stateless refugee" in Shanghai.
