CHINA. 1901, British Railway Administration, INVERTED 'BRA 5 CENTS' on cover, tied by 'Railway Post Office Tientsin' violet, and with pair of QV 3 pies C.E.F.overprint. tied by FPO No 4 (Tientsin) 20-AP-01 and struck with same on back. Albeit philatelically inspired, as all of the 3 recorded, nevertheless a truly elusive item which is cancelled on First Day of service ! Certificate 'Royal Philatelic Society Jan 14, 2004''The British Railway Administration instituted a late fee for letters posted within 10 to 60 minutes of train departures. Chinese stamps were overprinted in green or black ink "B.R.A./5/Five Cents" to show that the fee was paid. Special postmarks inscribed "Railway Post Office" were used to cancel these stamps at Peking, Tientsin, Tongku, Tongshan and Shanhaikwan. 'This service started on 20 April 2001 but was discontinued after only one month.'A wonderful Exhibition item which is seldom offered. Yang BRA 2a, FBM1. (Photo). Est. 8 000 - 10 000 CHF.
